Start time: 7:30 a.m.

 

7. EVENT AND FIELD SIZE

Event: Marathon (42.195KM), Half Marathon (21.0975 KM), Happy Run (4KM)

Field Size: Marathon 5,000, Half Marathon 6,000, Happy Run 14,000

 

8. RACE COURSE (To be confirmed by the Chinese Athletic Association.)

Course goes through the Open Square section of the Haibin road, and the routes go through the Haibin road, the Small Park area, the Zhugang New City area and the East Coast area. The Marathon and Half Marathon will end at the Open Square section of South Jinhuan Road, and the fun run will end at the People's Square section of Tongyi Road.

9. REGISTRATION

9.1 Age Requirements

a. For Marathon, participants shall be at least 20 years old, born before December 31st, 2003 (include).

 

b. For Half Marathon, participants shall be at least 16 years old, born before December 31st, 2007 (include).

 

c. For Happy Run, participants shall not be limited in age.

 

*Notes:

(a) For participants who aged under 18 years old, he/she and his/her guardian, custodian or legal representative shall fully understand, consent with and co-sign the Declaration of Participation and Commitment to Health and Safety Responsibilities.

 

(b) For participants who aged over 70 years old, he/she and his/her relatives (including the spouse, parents, adult offspring and other adult relatives) shall fully understand, consent with and co-sign the Declaration of Participation and Commitment to Health and Safety Responsibilities.

 

9.2 Health Requirements

a. Participants must sign and submit the Health and Safety Responsibility Commitment Letter before the race bag pick-up.

 

b. Marathon is an athletic sport with high load and great intensity over long distances. It is also a high risk athletic sport which has high physical demands on participants. Participants shall be in healthy condition, have experience in running and have completed training with distance over half-marathon. Anyone who has any of the following conditions is not recommended to participate:

n Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases (including hypertension), congenital heart disease and rheumatic heart disease, chronic lung disease, diabetes, chronic liver, kidney disease, tumor and other basic diseases.

· Maintenance dialysis patients.

· Deficiency of immune function.

· Coronary artery disease and serious arrhythmia.

· Diabetes with too high or too low blood sugar.

· Obesity (body mass index, BMI≥30).

· Caught a cold in two weeks prior to the race.

· Heavy drinking or insufficient sleep the night before the race.

· Pregnancy.

· Heavy smokers.

· Other diseases that are not suitable for doing sports.

 

All participants shall be liable for personal injury and property loss caused by personal health condition or other personal reasons during the event. Before the entry, participants are advised to have physical check-up (including electrocardiographic examination) in qualified medical institutions, and make a self-evaluation to confirm if the physical condition is suitable for the event of their choice.

 

*Notes: The setting of the courses, water/sponge station and mobile toilets are not specially set for users with wheelchair, baby carriage, roller skate etc. The organizing committee reserves the right to disqualify these participants. In addition, racing wheelchair event is not set in this race and racing wheelchair is not allowed in safety purpose. Thus, results obtained by using racing wheelchair will not be acknowledged for ranking prizes.

  

9.3 Registration

a. The race capacity is 25,000, with 5,000 for Marathon, 6,000 for Half Marathon and 14,000 for Happy Run. Projects are available while stocks last.

 

b. The race opens for registration at 10:00 on 20 October 2023 and closes at 19:00 on 10 November. All participants should log on the official website of 2023 DONGCHU Shantou Marathon (https://www.stmls.cn) to read and agree to 2023 DONGCHU Shantou Marathon's Declaration of Participation and Commitment of Health and Safety Responsibility, Notes on Registration and Risk Tips within the specified time, then fill in the registration information truthfully and complete the payment according to the requirements. Participants will be eligible to participate in the competition after their registration information has been reviewed and approved by the organising committee and will be notified by SMS; for those whose qualifications have not been approved, the organising committee will return the registration fee to the player's payment account in the original channel within 15 working days after the end of the registration period.

 

c. Participants can check their entry number on the official website after receiving the SMS notification.

 

d. Collection of Participation Items: Those who have successfully registered and obtained a participation number should collect their participation items at the designated place at the time specified in the collection instructions issued by the Organising Committee, and must collect the items in person at the venue with a valid ID card (no substitute collection), and the specific time and place will be released on the official website before the race; (Participation items can not be collected on the day of the race, so players are requested to make reasonable arrangements for the time of collecting the items.)

 

e. Entry fees will not be refunded if you qualify and do not participate in the race.

 

f. Registration for the tournament will be conducted according to the quota limit for each event, while stocks last. The official website, WeChat and Weibo platforms will be used by the organising committee to make timely announcements on the closing of registration. 

g. Marathon and half-marathon registered runners' performance requirements: when submitting registration information, you need to upload your own completion certificate of participating in marathon or half-marathon races after 1 January 2019 for the organising committee's review. Runners registered for the Happy Run event do not need to submit performance certificates.  

 

9.4 Entry Fee

Marathon Entry fee: 180 USD/person

Half Marathon Entry fee: 150 USD/person

Happy Run Entry fee: 80 USD/person

*Entry fee is not refundable.

10. COMPETITION RULES

10.1 The race will be conducted in accordance with the latest rules of athletics and the current marathon regulations as approved by the China Association of Athletics Federations (CAAF).

 

10.2 In accordance with the Notice on the Participation of  Runners with Disabilities  in National Marathon and Related Sports Events of the China Association of Athletics Federations, disabled runners who meet the eligibility criteria are allowed to participate in this competition, but there will be no competition categories for the disabled.

 

10.3 Roll-Call

Please spare sufficient time for arriving and roll-call at the starting area (60 minutes prior to the race start is suggested). The participants will go through the bib number check before they enter their corresponding assembly zone.

 

10.4 Starting Order

The race uses a zoned start. Marathon and half-marathon runners will be divided into zones according to their previous best times. Participants will assemble in the order of marathon, half marathon, Happy Run. Participants will assemble in the designated areas with 10 metres between squares.

 

10.5 Start

The race is run on a shotgun start, with the marathon, half marathon and Happy Run events starting in sequence. 

 

10.6 Timing Method

Chip timing service will be provided to all participants. Chips will be activated at the point the participants cross the start line. Timing carpets are placed at the start line, every 5KM point, half point (21.0975KM), turning points and the finish line. Participants shall run through every timing carpet during the race. Those who finish within the cut-off time but without complete record from all timing points will not be qualified for final ranking. Timing chips are distributed alongside bibs at Shantou Marathon Expo. No deposit is required. Timing is not available for the Happy Run.

 

10.7 Cut-Off Time

In order to provide an orderly organized race, cut-off time is set for each section of the course. Timing carpets at each cut-off point will be shut down at the cut-off time in sequence, and the section of the course will be re-opened to the public traffic. Those who are unable to complete the respective distance by the cut-off time shall stop racing and leave the course immediately, in case of any danger. Those who drop out of the race can take event vehicle or take public transportation to the Finish. Cut-off times are shown in the table below:

*Notes: In case of major events or special circumstances, the Organising Committee has the right to decide to close the race early and terminate the race, and the athletes should obey the instructions.

 

10.8 Bag Storage and Pick-up

Participants shall deposit personal belongings by the order of bib number at designated area. After finishing the race, participants shall go to the respective area for collection. Please do not put valuables in your deposit bags (such as mobile phone, IDs, cash, keys, credit cards, iPads, etc.). Participants are solely responsible for the damage or loss of personal valuables/belongings.

 

Service of baggage deposit on race day will be closed 15 minutes prior to the race start. Please plan your time accordingly. Baggage collection will be available till 14:30 for Marathon and 11:30 for Half marathon on race day at designated areas. Those who are unable to collect the baggage by above-mentioned time please claim within five days after the race day at the organizing committee (1104, Block A, Office Building, Lihongji Mansion, No.23 Yuejin Road, Jinping District, Shantou, Guangdong, China). After five days , all unclaimed baggage will be disposed by organizing committee.

10.10 Temporary Toilets and Environmental Protection

a. Temporary toilets are settled at start area, en-route (each 1KM along the race course from 5KM point to 2.5KM point) and finish area. All participants are responsible for environmental protection and cannot litter any wrapping paper, bottles and trash or urinate/defecate in public areas.

 

b. Temporary sprinklers are installed near the track along the course.

 

10.11 Medical Aid

a. Medical aid stations will be set at the start area, along the race route (at 2.5km intervals from 2.5km to 40km), and the finish area. On-site medical staff reserve the right to remove a participant from the race out of the best interest of the participant’s health and welfare. Participants should stop racing if ordered to do so by official personnel. Otherwise, participants are responsible for any medical expense incurred.

 

b. AED first aid service will be provided along the race course. 

 

10.12 Doping Control 

The Competition will conduct doping control on the participants in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Road Races Management Documents of Chinese Athletics Association and the Chinese Anti-Doping Regulations. 

 

10.13 For the specific requirements and arrangements of the competition, please refer to the electronic version of the Participation Guide, which will be published on the official website before the competition.

 

11. AWARD METHOD

11.1 Marathon Ranking Prize (ranked by gun time)

Top ten male and female runners (ranked by gun time) will be awarded with the following bonus respectively. Trophies and medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers.

11.4 Eastern Guangdong Runner's Prize (ranked by net time)

a. Awarded runners must meet the following requirements: holders of resident identity card (based on the identity card number) of the five cities in the eastern part of Guangdong (Shantou, Chaozhou, Jieyang, Shanwei and Meizhou).

 

b. The 1st to 10th place of male and female athletes who have completed the marathon and half marathon events will be awarded cash prizes accordingly.

 

11.5 Marathon runners participating in the ranking of Marathon Ranking Prize, Marathon Chinese Runner Special Prize and Marathon Eastern Guangdong Runner Prize at the same time, and obtaining more than one prize, the prize money will be awarded according to the highest prize money prize, and no cumulative prize money will be paid out, and the other rankings will not be progressed; half marathon runners participating in the ranking of Half Marathon Ranking Prize, Half Marathon Chinese Runner Special Prize and Half Marathon Eastern Guangdong  Runner Prize at the same time. For Half Marathon runners, if they win more than one prize, the prize money will be awarded according to the highest prize money award, no cumulative prize money will be awarded, and the other rankings will not be progressive. Meanwhile, all the above prizes will be subject to 20% personal income tax according to Chinese tax law, which will be withheld and paid by the Organising Committee on behalf of the participants.

 

11.6 Awarding of prize money: No prize money will be awarded on site, the list of winners will be announced on the official website for one week, except for athletes with doping test, if there is no objection, the prize money of the winning athletes will be credited to the reserved bank account. Doping test athletes will be released after confirming that there is no doping problem. If a doping test failure is found, there is a violation of the competition rules and regulations of the players or there is a dispute or a complaint is found to be true, the ranking and prize money will be cancelled, and the subsequent rankings will not be incremented.

 

11.7 Marathon and Half Marathon participants who finish the race within the closing time will receive finishers' items and commemorative medals with their valid number bibs. The Organising Committee will not award prizes to participants of the Fun Run and the Parent-Child Race. The Organising Committee will provide a commemorative medal to all participants of the Fun Run and the Parent-Child Race who have finished the race.

 

11.8 Marathon and Half Marathon runners who finish the race within the closing time will be able to log on the official website 24 hours after the end of the race for results enquiry and certificate printing.

 

12. PUNISHMENTS

 

Video recording are set on the entire race course. Participants will be ceased from the race, and have their results annulled if they committed any of the followings. Further penalties, such as banned from future races for a period of up to 5 years or indefinite, will be given depending on the circumstances. Such conditions will also be reported to the Chinese Athletics Association, and additional penalties may be imposed.

 

a. Falsity age or identity information, or let someone else run the race.

b. Run with 2 or more timing chips, or running with a timing chip of the other gender).

c. Racing in relay.

d. Not following the start order and start at non-designated area. Rule violations when starting;

e. Continuing to race after cut-off time or returning to the course after withdrawing from the race.

f. Not racing along the course. Taking shortcuts or any transportation (vehicle, subway, bike etc.)

g. Crossing the finish line repeatedly or claiming post-race packages and medals with illegible bibs.

h. Altering, producing, transferring and/or selling the bib.

i. Failing to follow instructions given by race officials and staff, disturbing the race order, causing riots.

j. Uncivil behaviors.

k. Concealing health status and providing false registration information.

l. Violating rules of doping control.

m. Other behaviors against the social security rules and rules of the race.

 

Participants who enrolled by misrepresentation or transferred entry from another person will be ceased from Shantou Marathon race for life, and shall be solely responsible and accountable for all the consequences. The Organizing Committee reserved the rights to investigate the responsibility of related persons and appeal to the law.

 

13. INSURANCE

 

The organising committee of this competition will purchase personal accident insurance for all participants and staff during the competition (the specific type and amount of insurance shall be subject to the final policy). If the participants are unable to purchase the insurance or the insurance is unable to settle the claim due to incomplete, inaccurate or untrue filling of the registration information, all the legal liabilities arising from this (including but not limited to inability to obtain the insurance claim, etc.) shall be the sole responsibility of the participants.

 

Special Notes:

 

13.1 If the participant is unwell and suffers from any illness or symptom (including but not limited to heatstroke, fainting, etc.) during the competition due to his/her own reasons (including but not limited to chronic illness, invisible illness, insufficient physical endurance, etc.) and if the insurance company determines that the illness does not fall within the scope of the insurance claim, then all legal liabilities and consequences arising from the illness or symptom (including but not limited to medical expenses, loss of time from work, disability compensation or reimbursement) shall be the participant's own responsibility. All legal responsibilities and consequences (including but not limited to medical treatment cost, loss of work, disability compensation, death compensation, etc.) shall be borne by the participant himself/herself and have nothing to do with the Organising Committee. Participants are advised to assess their own health conditions carefully before registering.

 

13.2 The Organising Committee will provide free first-aid medical treatment during the Competition, which is limited to on-site medical treatment. Any expenses incurred by the participant during the subsequent treatment in the hospital will be settled between the participant and the hospital and the participant may apply for compensation from the insurance company or negotiate with the insurance company on his/her own, and the Organising Committee may provide the necessary data and information to support the participant.

 

13.3 If a participant suffers personal injury or death due to doping or other prohibited drugs in the course of the competition, all legal responsibilities and consequences arising therefrom (including, but not limited to, medical treatment costs, loss of work, disability compensation, death compensation, etc.) shall be borne by the participant himself/herself.
